What is Franchise?

A franchise system is a partnership between independent business people. The franchisor develops, extends and optimises the successful business concept and the franchise product, and carries out continuous innovation.
After initial in-depth training, the independent franchisee takes over the business concept under the franchisor’s trade name and puts it into practice in a local market of his own choosing.
In detail, this means that the franchisor develops an idea from A-Z, including the product itself, advertising, design of the premises and training. Then he puts his idea into practice in at least one pilot project. At the same time he works continually on systematisation and optimisation of the work procedures and organisational structures involved. The tested, fully-developed and properly-functioning business concept is then made available to franchisee, who will operate in localities stipulated by contract.
With their entry into the franchise system, the franchisee automatically take on the right and duty of displaying the franchisor’s established trade name as their “doorplate”. franchisee have unrestricted entrepreneurial freedom of choice, for example in deciding when and where they work.
Franchising gives the franchisee the opportunity of a fully-developed, independent way of making a living. They profit on the one hand from the services provided by the franchisor, and on the other from starting off at a higher level, besides benefitting from other advantages, e.g. group purchasing. Therefore, as franchisee, they have a competitive edge that makes them more attractive for customers. The franchisee have a lighter overall workload, since the franchisor relieves them of tasks in many areas, (product innovation, marketing concepts, national and international advertising etc.), enabling them to concentrate fully on the job in hand, which is decisive for success.

The History of Franchise

The present-day form of franchising had its origin on 2nd March, 1955, in the “McDonald´s” franchise system that we all know so well. Former milkshake-machine rep Roy Kroc laid the foundation stone for one of the world´s most successful franchise systems. The expansion of McDonald´s occurred parallel to the breakthrough of franchising in general. Successful franchise companies in Germany are, for example, Marc O´Polo, Stinnes Reifendienst and Yves Rocher.

The bumble-bee Franchise

The franchisor is Sibylle Brendle, bumble-bee Englisch für Kinder, based in Stuttgart, Germany. She has devised a concept for private English lessons for children and has also developed and produced the corresponding lesson material (teaching books, CDs and cassettes). This concept is based on a method for children to learn the English language in playful activity.
After initial in-depth training with the franchisor, the franchisee set up bumble-bee English groups and give bumble-bee English courses for children, each in their own area (usually the area where they live).
The franchisor supports the franchisee as regards pedagogical, organisational, marketing and franchise-specific questions. She supplies the franchisee with all the necessary material (teaching and advertising material, stationery and administrative forms) and provides regular opportunities of further training.

Teacher Training Courses

The bumble-bee teacher seminar is part of the initial training given to franchisee. It covers the pedagogical and practical part of this training, in which the franchisee become acquainted with the bumble-bee method and teaching material and learn to teach with it. Successful completion of the bumble-bee Teacher Training Course is a prior condition for the coming into effect of the franchise agreement.
